Birding Log & Life List

Privacy Policy

Bird Life List collects no personal data. There is no account, no server and no tracking.

Last updated: 12 July 2026 · Effective: 12 July 2026

Summary in one line: everything you enter into Bird Life List — your sightings, species, dates, counts, locations, photos and notes — is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to us or to anyone else.

1. Who we are

Bird Life List (“the App”) is developed and published by MD Shahariar Nazim Joy (“we”, “us”), the data controller for the purposes of this policy.

2. Data we collect

We collect none. The App has no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash-reporting service, no user accounts and no backend server of any kind. We are not able to see your data, because your data never leaves your device.

3. Data the App stores on your device

The App stores the following locally on your iPhone or iPad only, inside the App’s private, sandboxed storage:

WhatWhyWhere it goes
Bird sightings — species, date, time, count, habitat, field notesThis is the core purpose of the App: your birding life list.Stays on your device.
Location coordinates (optional)Only if you tap “Use Current Location” while logging a sighting, so the entry can show where you saw the bird and appear as a pin on your private sightings map.Stays on your device.
Photos you attach (optional)To keep a photo of the bird with the sighting.Stays on your device. A copy is saved inside the App; your photo library is not modified.
Onboarding answers and your chosen home regionTo pre-filter the species picker to birds from your region.Stays on your device.

Deleting the App from your device permanently deletes all of this data. You can also delete everything at any time from Settings → Delete all sightings inside the App, and you can export everything to a CSV file from Settings → Export life list.

4. Location

The App requests “While Using the App” location access, and only at the moment you tap “Use Current Location” on the sighting form. It is never requested at launch and never requested in the background.

5. Photos

The App uses Apple’s system photo picker. Because of how that picker works, the App never gains access to your photo library — it only receives the single image you deliberately choose. The App does not request photo-library permission at all.

6. Purchases

Bird Life List is a paid app. Subscriptions and the Lifetime purchase are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store using Apple’s In-App Purchase system.

7. Data we share

None. We have no data to share. We do not sell, rent, trade or disclose any information to third parties, data brokers, advertisers or anyone else, because we do not collect any.

8. Tracking

The App does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. It contains no advertising identifier usage, no App Tracking Transparency prompt (none is needed), no fingerprinting and no third-party SDKs.

9. Children

The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, of any age. Since no data is collected or transmitted, no personal data of a child can be received by us.

10. Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK), the CCPA/CPRA (California) and similar regimes give you rights of access, correction, deletion, portability and objection over personal data held about you. Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or delete on our side.

With respect to the data on your own device, you have complete and direct control at all times:

11. Data retention

We retain nothing, because we receive nothing. Data on your device is retained until you delete it or delete the App.

12. Security

Your data is protected by iOS app sandboxing and, when you have a device passcode enabled, by iOS file-level encryption. Because nothing is transmitted, there is no server to breach and no data in transit to intercept.

13. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and change the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will also be noted in the App’s release notes.
