Frequently asked questions
How do I add a warranty?
Tap the + button on the main Warranties screen. Enter the product name and pick a category, then fill in the purchase date, the warranty length, the price, the store you bought it from and the serial number. Tap Save and the item appears in your list with a live countdown to its expiry date. You can attach a receipt at the same time, or add one later by opening the item, tapping Edit, and then Scan Receipt.
How do I scan a receipt?
When adding or editing a warranty, tap Scan Receipt to photograph the receipt with the camera, or Choose Receipt from Photos to attach an image you already have. The app then runs on-device text recognition (Apple Vision) on the image and offers to fill in details such as the store, date and price. Always check the recognised values before saving — OCR is very good but not perfect. The receipt image stays attached to the item as your proof of purchase.
Why do I need to subscribe?
Warranty Tracker & Receipts is a paid app with no ads, no tracking and no data collection — your purchase is what funds it. Rather than monetising your data, we ask you to pay for the app directly, which lets us keep everything on-device and completely private. A Warranty Pro purchase unlocks unlimited warranties, the receipt scanner with on-device OCR, barcode scanning, PDF warranty reports and smart expiry reminders. You can choose Monthly ($2.99), Annual ($12.99, with a 3-day free trial) or a one-time Lifetime ($24.99) purchase. Full details are in the Terms of Use.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open the Settings tab inside the app and tap Restore Purchases. See the step-by-step section below if you need more detail.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not inside the app. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions, select Warranty Tracker & Receipts, and tap Cancel Subscription.
Your subscription stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep access until then. To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Note that deleting the app does not cancel your subscription — you must cancel through the Settings path above. The Lifetime purchase is a one-time payment and never renews, so there is nothing to cancel.
Is my data private?
Yes — completely. The app is 100% on-device: your receipts and warranty data never leave your iPhone. Everything you enter is stored only in the app's local database (SwiftData) on your device. There are no servers, no cloud, no account, no analytics, no tracking, no ads and no third-party SDKs. Receipt OCR and barcode scanning run entirely on-device using Apple Vision and AVFoundation, so your receipt images are never uploaded anywhere. Purchases are handled by Apple through StoreKit, so we never see your payment details. Your data is never sold or shared, and deleting the app deletes all of it. See the Privacy Policy for the full details.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. Because everything runs on your device, the app works fully offline — you can add warranties, scan receipts, scan barcodes, view countdowns and export PDF reports with no internet connection. A connection is only needed the first time you purchase or restore a Warranty Pro entitlement, because that is handled by the App Store.
Is my data on my other devices?
Not currently. Your warranties are stored locally on the device where you entered them, so each device keeps its own list. Cross-device sync is not part of this version of the app. If you are moving to a new iPhone, an encrypted iPhone backup (via iCloud Backup or Finder/iTunes) restores your app data along with the rest of your device. You can also export a PDF report of your warranties at any time to keep a copy.
How do reminders work?
When you save a warranty, the app schedules a local notification ahead of its expiry date so you have time to make a claim, return an item or extend coverage. You can set your own alert lead time — for example, 30 days, 7 days or 1 day before expiry — so the reminder arrives when it is actually useful to you. Reminders are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device; no push server is involved, and nothing about your products is sent anywhere. The app also shows a live countdown on each item so you can see remaining coverage at a glance.
Why didn't I get a notification?
Notifications are the most common thing to go wrong, and it is nearly always a permission or a system setting. Please check:
- Notification permission is granted: go to Settings > Warranty Tracker & Receipts > Notifications and make sure Allow Notifications is on, along with Lock Screen, Notification Centre and Banners.
- Focus / Do Not Disturb was not silencing notifications at the scheduled time. Check Settings > Focus.
- Scheduled Summary is not delaying delivery — in Settings > Notifications > Scheduled Summary, either turn it off or remove the app from the summary.
- The reminder date has not already passed. If a warranty's expiry (or its alert lead time) is already in the past when you save it, there is no future date on which to fire a notification.
- The purchase date and warranty length are correct — open the item and confirm the expiry date shown is the one you expect.
If notifications are still not arriving after checking all of the above, email us at dmjks120@gmail.com with your iOS version and device model and we will help you track it down.
How do I export a PDF report?
Open the Reports tab (the third tab in the tab bar), choose what to include, then tap Create PDF Report. The app generates a formatted PDF of your warranties — including product names, categories, purchase dates, expiry dates, prices, stores and serial numbers — entirely on your device. When it is ready, the standard iOS share sheet appears so you can save the file to Files, email it, print it, or send it wherever you need. It is a useful record for insurance claims, resale or your own archive.
Restore Purchases
If you have reinstalled the app, moved to a new iPhone or iPad, or the app is asking you to purchase again even though you have already paid, you can restore your existing entitlement free of charge:
- Make sure your device is signed in to the same Apple Account that you used to make the original purchase.
- Open Warranty Tracker & Receipts.
- Go to the Settings tab inside the app.
- Tap Restore Purchases.
- Wait a moment while the App Store confirms your entitlement — your Warranty Pro access will be re-enabled automatically.
Restoring works for the Monthly and Annual subscriptions (while they are active) and for the one-time Lifetime purchase. A restore never charges you again. If the restore does not work, check that you are signed in with the correct Apple Account, that you have a working internet connection, and that the original purchase was made with that same account. Still stuck? Email dmjks120@gmail.com and we will sort it out.
Managing your subscription
All subscription management is handled by Apple. On your iPhone or iPad, go to:
Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions
From there you can switch between the Monthly and Annual plans, turn off auto-renewal, or cancel entirely. Refund requests are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. See the Terms of Use (EULA) for the complete subscription terms.
