How do I mark a country?

Open the Map and tap the country you want. A panel appears with the country's name and three choices — Visited, Lived and Wishlist. Tap the one that applies and the country fills in on the map immediately.

Tapping the same status again clears it, so a mis-tap costs you nothing. Pinch to zoom in on small countries and island states before tapping; the smaller the shape, the more it helps to zoom first.

How do I mark a state, province or region?

More than 50 countries are subdivided in the app. Tap the country, then choose to open its regions — the map drills in and shows that country's states, provinces or regions as individually tappable shapes. Mark each one exactly as you would a country.

This is what lets "I have been to the USA" mean the specific states you actually set foot in, rather than the whole country. Your region count appears on the Passport screen. If a country you want is not subdivided yet, email us and tell us which one — that is how the list grows.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open the app, go to Settings and tap Restore Purchases. Your entitlement is tied to your Apple Account, so this is what you use after getting a new iPhone or iPad, after reinstalling the app, or if the app stops recognising a subscription or Lifetime Access purchase you already own.

Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account that made the original purchase — restoring will not find a purchase made on a different account. You need a connection for this, because the check goes to Apple. If it still does not restore, email dmjks120@gmail.com.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Cancellation is handled by Apple, not inside the app. Open Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions, select World Map: Countries Visited, and tap Cancel Subscription. The full step-by-step is in the Manage or cancel your subscription section below.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, otherwise the subscription renews. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. Lifetime Access is a one-time purchase and has nothing to cancel.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything you mark stays on your device in a local SwiftData store. The app has no accounts, no servers, no analytics SDKs, no ads and no third-party trackers, and it never uploads your countries, regions, trips or notes anywhere. We cannot see your data and we have no way to retrieve it.

The app requests no device permissions at all — not location, not photos, not contacts, not the camera, not notifications. You will never get a permission prompt from it. The only network request it ever makes is to Apple's StoreKit, to sell or check a purchase, and we never see your payment details.

Does it work offline?

Completely. The entire world map ships inside the app — there are no map tiles to download and no map server to call. You can mark countries on a plane, on a train, in a tent, or with the phone in Airplane Mode, and it all works.

The only thing that needs a connection is buying or restoring a purchase, because that check goes to Apple's App Store.

Why is my country's border shaped that way? What about disputed territories?

The boundaries come from Natural Earth, a public-domain map dataset maintained by the cartographic community. Natural Earth draws borders on a neutral, de-facto basis — roughly, as they are administered on the ground, rather than as any one government claims them.

The app takes no position on any territorial dispute. The shapes are a cartographic convenience for logging your own travel; they are not a political statement, a legal claim, or an endorsement of anyone's claim. Where a border is contested, no drawing of it will satisfy everyone, and we are not attempting to adjudicate.

If you would rather not see it, Settings has a toggle to hide disputed-territory shading. If you believe there is a genuine data error — as opposed to a disagreement about a disputed border — please email us with the specifics and we will look into it.

How do I share my map?

Open the Passport screen and choose to share. The app renders a map card image — your filled-in map together with your stats — and hands it to the standard iOS share sheet, where you can save it to Photos, message it, or post it wherever you like.

The image is generated entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded by the app; it only goes where you send it.

How do I delete my data?

Two ways, both instant and both under your control:

1. Open Settings in the app and use the delete all data option. This erases your marked countries, marked regions, trips, notes and preferences from your device straight away.
2. Or simply delete the app from your device — its local data store goes with it.

Both are irreversible. Because your data never left the device, we hold no copy and cannot restore it for you. Note that deleting the app does not cancel a subscription — cancel that separately in Settings.

Which devices are supported?

iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later. The map, the regions, the 3D globe and the Passport all work on both, and the iPad simply gives you a bigger map to tap.

Your purchase is tied to your Apple Account, so a subscription or Lifetime Access bought on your iPhone also unlocks the app on your iPad — tap Restore Purchases there if it does not appear automatically. Your marked map, however, is stored per-device: there is no account and no sync, so the two devices keep separate maps.

Is there a free version?

No. The app is a free download, but it requires a purchase to use — there is no free tier. Monthly is US$2.99/month, Yearly is US$12.99/year (about US$1.08/month, with a 3-day free trial for new subscribers), and Lifetime Access is a one-time US$19.99 purchase that never renews.
