Quick answers
How to restore purchases
- Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy Sober Pro.
- Open the app.
- Go to the Settings tab.
- Tap Restore Purchases.
Your Sober Pro entitlement is tied to your Apple Account, not to your device, so this also works after a reinstall or on a new iPhone or iPad. If the restore does not find your purchase, email us and include the Apple Account email you purchased with.
How to cancel your subscription
- Open iOS Settings.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap Sober.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
Cancellation must be made at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid being charged for the next one. You keep access to Sober Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for. Subscriptions are managed entirely by Apple; the Developer cannot cancel one for you.
Frequently asked questions
How do I start a counter?
Open the app and tap the button to add a counter. Give it a name, then set the quit date and time — the moment you had your last drink. If you want the money-saved and calories-avoided figures, also enter roughly what you used to spend and drink.
As soon as you save, the live clock starts counting from the date you set. If your quit date is in the past, the counter immediately reflects all the time you have already banked. You do not lose credit for the days you were sober before you installed the app.
What if I relapse — how do I reset?
First: a relapse is not a failure of the whole effort, and it does not erase what you learned. The app is designed to let you start again without ceremony.
To reset, open the counter and set its quit date to your new start moment. The clock, the money-saved figure, and the calories-avoided figure recalculate from that new date, and milestone progress restarts from there. If you would rather keep a record of the previous attempt, create a separate counter instead of resetting the old one — the app supports multiple counters, so you can keep your history alongside your fresh start.
If you are drinking heavily again, please speak to a healthcare professional before you stop abruptly. See our medical disclaimer.
How is money saved calculated?
It is a straightforward projection based on what you tell the app you used to spend. The app takes your stated spending rate, converts it to a cost per unit of time, and multiplies it by the exact time elapsed since your quit date. The figure updates continuously, in US dollars.
It is an estimate for motivation, not an accounting record. Its accuracy depends entirely on the accuracy of the figure you entered. If your spending was irregular, enter a realistic average. You can change the amount at any time, and the total will recalculate.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open the app, go to the Settings tab, and tap Restore Purchases. You must be signed in with the same Apple Account that made the original purchase.
This is the correct route after reinstalling the app, after resetting your device, or when moving to a new iPhone or iPad. Restoring is free and does not charge you again. If it fails, check that you are on the right Apple Account, then email dmjks120@gmail.com.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to iOS Settings > tap your name > Subscriptions > Sober > Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends to avoid the next charge. You keep Sober Pro until the end of the period you have paid for.
Sober Pro Lifetime is a one-time purchase, so there is no subscription to cancel. For a refund, you must go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com — Apple processes all payments and all refunds, and the Developer cannot issue one.
Why do I need to pay?
Because the alternative is worse. Most free apps in this category pay for themselves with advertising and analytics, which means instrumenting you and selling access to your attention — in an app that knows you are trying to stop drinking. That is data we refuse to have.
Sober Pro is required to use the app, and that single decision is what lets Sober ship with no ads, no analytics SDK, no trackers, and no servers. You pay for the app; you are the customer, not the product. Sober Pro is $3.99 per month, $19.99 per year (with a 3-day free trial for new subscribers), or $29.99 once for lifetime access. See the Terms of Use for full subscription terms.
Are my data private?
Yes, and structurally so. Sober is 100% on-device. Your counters, quit dates, journal entries, and milestones are stored locally with Apple SwiftData and never leave your iPhone or iPad. There is no account, no login, and no server operated by the Developer — so there is nowhere for your data to be sent, and nothing for anyone to breach.
There is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no third-party tracker in the app. No data is collected, shared, or sold. The only network interaction is with Apple’s App Store and StoreKit, to make or restore a purchase; Apple processes the payment and the Developer never sees your payment details. The app’s Apple App Privacy summary is Data Not Collected. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
How do I add the widget?
Home Screen widget
- Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen until the apps jiggle.
- Tap the Edit or + button in the corner, then tap Add Widget.
- Search for Sober and select it.
- Choose a widget size, tap Add Widget, then tap Done.
Lock Screen widget
- Touch and hold the Lock Screen, then tap Customize.
- Tap Lock Screen, then tap the area below the clock.
- Select Sober and choose a widget.
- Tap Done.
If Sober does not appear in the widget list, open the app once first, then try again. A restart of the device also reliably refreshes the widget gallery.
Where does the health timeline come from? (Sources)
The health-recovery timeline is general educational information compiled from public health authorities, including the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the UK National Health Service (NHS), the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Heart Association, and SAMHSA.
It describes what is typical in general populations. It is not a prediction about your body and it is not medical advice; individual recovery varies substantially. The complete reference list, with links to each source, is on our Medical Disclaimer page.
